Strategy for Success
Mission Statement:
With its roots in the African Caribbean community, Arawak Walton Housing Association champions the provision of quality affordable homes in sustainable multi- cultural neighbourhoods
With over 24 years experience of working in the inner city, we understand the challenges of social deprivation and exclusion. We will continue to deliver good quality, affordable housing and appropriate related services to support the communities we serve. We are uniquely placed and committed to working with partner agencies to improve community cohesion, by creating sustainable, multi-cultural neighbourhoods.
Key themes:
- Our specialist knowledge of African and Caribbean communities and their cultural needs provides the framework for our activities. The ethnic profile of our tenant population (see Appendix III) confirms that we continue to meet our mission and stated objectives. We are providing services to increasingly diverse customers and continue our work in addressing the needs of newly emerging communities within our housing stock.
- We will continue to work mainly in the inner city areas of Greater Manchester. We have established the demand for new areas through research – see Appendix III. Significantly, new opportunities in Stockport have provided our customers with greater choice to meet their aspirations.
- Our asset management strategy will ensure that our housing stock remains contemporary and in high demand through a robust planned major repairs programme. We will also contribute to regeneration in these areas through our non-housing activities.
- We will maintain our independent role. However, we recognise the benefits of partnerships including, Adactus, Harvest, Mosscare and Guinness Northern Counties, Trafford Housing Trust. This gives us access to growth through development and management opportunities. We work in partnership with organisations that have a similar ethos of addressing housing needs, to assist us in the delivery of housing and services.
